Just Another Facade

It's seventh grade And she walks in the room Surrounded by faces so Utterly familiar But so completely strange. Friendless and alone She sits at the only Desk she feels good enough To be able to be at You watch her befriend Her neighbour, a girl She never would have Spoken to before. You know she is alone And it's because of you

Because you distanced yourself The moment she uttered Those few simple words "I'm moving." It doesn't matter, That summer passed And that you know she Never left and now Had no plans to. It doesn't matter That you were her best Friend she had And her only other friends Were in the other class. You left her alone.

You had your old friends Back in your life. Popular. You used to be too Before she came And they decided they Didn't like her. She was quiet and shy With a smile on her Face whenever you saw her And all preppy in pink She looked happy. You never knew What happened to her At the end of sixth grade. She never let on

So you never saw. You didn't know She was crying inside Deeper than she even Knew herself. She was running from her life But you never suspected Not even when She called you in tears Terrified by the cut She almost made. You are seventeen now. She, sixteen. You wouldn't recognize her If she walked right

Into you. You changed when You had that 'Break' in your friendship With her for those few months. She did too. Or maybe she didn't. Maybe, life caught up with her. But you never noticed. You never saw the real her. You never saw the real me.
